About me

Eva - Italian and English teacher

Hi!

Hi! I’m Eva, an Italian and English teacher.
I’ve always loved literature – especially Russian and American – and films. Some of my favorites include Pulp Fiction, Lost in Translation, and A Special Day.

Italian is my first language, but I also speak five others at various levels. I’ve moved around Europe about thirteen times. More than traveling, I love living in the world – but at the end of the day, I’m always searching for a sense of home.

I was born at the end of June 1995 and grew up between Milan and a small town in the province of Parma. Summers were spent with my grandfather, our dog and cat, surrounded by gardens and woods. So I’ve always felt at home both in big cities and in nature.

MY STORY

My life has always been about adventure, exploration, and discovery.

When I was nine, I visited Cambridge to see a family friend and realized that what I wanted most in life was to explore the world – not as a tourist, but by immersing myself in different realities, learning local languages, and connecting deeply with people.

My relationship with languages has never been about grades. It has always been about love, curiosity, and the search for home.

  • English was the first: learned in school and nurtured through films, books, and international friends. I imagined myself as English, living in a countryside college.
  • German came next, at 17, after a summer crush on a German boy. I worked on a farm in Baden-Württemberg and then spent a year in Bremen, diving deep into the language.
  • At 21, I worked in a hostel in Scotland, where I found a true sense of community and friendships full of philosophical chats and adventurous stories.
  • At 22, I started university and graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures, choosing two new languages: French and Russian. I fell in love with French cinema and Russian literature.
  • Spanish came last, at 23, when I visited Barcelona to see a friend and decided to stay. I lived four years in Spain—Barcelona, Madrid (where I did a Master’s in sexology and gender studies), and Granada, working in a social community.

Other formative experiences include:

  • Teaching English at a refugee camp on Chios, Greece (2022)
  • Two road trips across the US in 2023 and 2024, the first solo, the second with company

Even though I’ve experienced many different places and adventures, what truly matters to me are the people and the connections I build. Writing and teaching are my ways of staying close to others, creating genuine relationships, and growing together.

what I believe in

What I Care About

I believe teaching is a form of deep, transformative human exchange, and writing is a way to express creativity and practice a little personal therapy.

I see languages not as trophies or a race for perfection, but as bridges into other people’s lives and minds—ways to understand different perspectives and form authentic connections.

For me, teaching and learning through languages, writing, and literature is my favorite way to feel at home.

HOW IT WORKS

What I Do and Who I Work With

Becoming a teacher wasn’t a Plan B – it’s always been my dream.
As a child, I’d line up my stuffed animals and pretend to teach when I should have been doing homework.

During my university years, I obtained the DITALS certification for teaching Italian to foreigners and later earned a TEFL qualification to teach English. I’ve taught in various schools, both online and in person, and discovered exactly who I love working with.

I have been teaching Italian to foreigners for over 5 years and have had the pleasure of guiding more than 60 students on their learning journey.

With my online school, I aim to create a space for those who want to learn Italian or English and who want to:

  • Improve their expressive abilities
  • Do it naturally
  • Explore authentic cultural content
  • Learn at their own pace

I provide structure, support, attentive listening, and genuine interest in each student

I believe success in learning also depends on the connection with the teacher: there’s no one-size-fits-all, only the right match for you.

If you think languages are about entering other people’s lives – not just memorizing rules – you’ll probably feel at home here.

CURIOSITIES

Random facts about me

  • My favorite day is Monday – it makes me feel like I can start fresh every time.
  • I somehow remember everyone’s birthdays.
  • I have a very keen sense of smell.
  • I’d happily eat cappelletti in broth even in the middle of summer.
  • I try pretty much everything when it comes to food – I’m very curious at the table.
  • I love kitschy mugs, the kind that say things like “World’s Best Dad.”
  • I’m fascinated by abandoned houses and love exploring them.
  • In the car, I only want music – talking distracts me.
  • I’m terrible at multitasking; I prefer focusing on one thing at a time.
  • My comfort movie for tough days is Due Date with Robert Downey Jr. Or, if not, the Italian series L’Ispettore Coliandro.
  • As a kid, I wanted to be a pirate – until I realized I get seasick.
  • In English, I adore the Scottish accent and the Southern US drawl.
  • Even though I move often, I’m deeply nostalgic and sentimental.

Eva is a fabulous Italian teacher, who knows what it takes to learn a language. She is fluent in English, Spanish, French, with skill in German and Russian. Her Italian is clear and she has a northern Italian accent, from Milan. I have studied with her for over five years. She structures her sessions according to the priorities of the student. My interest is more for conversation, so each session is an elaborate conversation in which she notes new words or expressions. Then, she summarizes the new vocabulary and I review words, quiz myself and write them into sentences. Eva has a wide range of interests, from books, cinema, travel, and Italian cuisine. She has interesting insights into Italian life and culture, and is always honest. It is not a sugar-coated view of Italian life. I always look forward to the next session. I highly recommend Eva to students of all levels, from beginner to expert. I am sure she will bring your Italian to the next level.

Eva truly is a rare talent in teaching the italian language: with tireless dedication, a keen eye for the student’s potential, and a remarkably goal-oriented approach, she has helped me make remarkable progress in a very short time. For anyone wishing to advance quickly in language learning, and willing to take on the challenges and collaborate with Eva, she is not only an inspiration but also an intelligent and exceptional coach.

Eva is an extraordinary teacher of languages. She knows that to learn a language you need to enjoy it, but at the same time, you need to challenge yourself, and she is brilliant at finding the recipe that balances each of these objectives. In recent years, I've especially enjoyed doing writing and conversation lessons with Eva. She is an insightful and sensitive commentator, and my use of the language feels increasingly "natural" and my own, thanks to her. Rather than rigidly telling you what you must say, she collaborates with you to work out the tone that you're aspiring to, and how that can best be rendered in Italian. It is a real pleasure taking lessons with Eva, and I highly recommend her teaching method to all languages students.
